Before you consider your future - you need to consider your past. Please review your transcripts and graduation status pages on Aeries. You should pay particular attention to any F's that have not been repeated. For CSU/UCs. eligibility, you must have Cs or higher.
Next you need to know what classes are available for you next year. Please view this in relation to YOU. Do not make decisions based on what others are doing or not doing.
We've prepared a short video of the course request process as well as graduation requirements, policies and other pertinent information.
The document to the right (or below on mobile) is a PDF of a typical sequence of required and optional classes for your graduating class's grade next year.
Your grade will have the following classes pre-assigned to start:
Living Earth P, Math, World History P and English 2P
*Please consider your electives carefully as our courses are year-long. We cannot switch electives mid-year.
There are a few potential scheduling circumstances that may have common questions. We have tried to address these questions below:
ALD: Students who have mandated periods like ALD will be automatically placed into those periods in their requests and have them locked. These courses will not appear in the request options.
SGI: Students with an IEP will have a select set of courses and possibly a directed studies period. Please contact your case manager if you have specific questions.
Specialized Peer Tutor: Courses like Peer Tutor will be assigned to teachers based on need and approval from the teacher. Students will not be able to request the Peer Tutor class in Aeries when selecting courses for next year. Teachers and parents need to sign off on a permission form in order for the class to be added. (link form here). Teachers are only allowed two Peer Tutors in total. Also, peer tutors are only available to 11th and 12th graders.
Cross-Age Tutor: Courses like Peer Tutor will be assigned generally until the upcoming fall when students will be assigned to teachers based on need. We cannot promise specific placements for TAs (but try to make a match where we can). TA is only available in 11th and 12th grades.
Free Periods: Free periods are assigned when a student is on track with 180 credits at the end of junior year. A form must be signed by you and your guardian. Free period preference will not be considered. (Link 5 period day form here).
JC Periods: JC periods will be assigned when a student has provided their counselor with proof of enrollment in a course.
Rising Sophomore 10-minute meeting schedule
February 11-17th
Once you have added a course to your requests - it is in. There is no submit button. You can change classes as often as you like when the request window is open if you change your mind. Once the window closes - you will meet with your school counselor for your 10-minute meeting.
During your meeting, your counselor will go over your graduation status, credit recovery options (if applicable), answer questions you may have about college and post-secondary options and finally go over your course requests.
This year you will be meeting with your counselor during your PE class.
Scheduling is like a giant puzzle and takes us about 4 months to create your perfect schedule (it's equivalent to making about 3,000+ individual classes all fit together nicely). We can make most student requests work, but we are never able to make them all work. If we can't - we will reach out to talk about alternatives, waitlists, etc.
Please be sure to regularly check your email because we may ask you about a scheduling question that needs a prompt reply. If we do not hear back quickly - we may move on to the next student.
