First Grade Newsletter April 29-May 3, 2024



Dear Parents,

     I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today was beautiful. It looks like the week ahead will be warm.  We have a lot to do by the end of this month. I will be giving Homework, but I will try to make sure it is not too much. We will be working on new chapters in Religion and Wonders. We continue counting money in Math and also talking about time. We will be on the last week of Unit 11 in Fundations. I will send home a practice paper this week to help the children get ready for the Unit 11 dictation test on Friday.  I did not do a Spelling Lesson this week.

     

Plan for the Week

Religion - Chapter 23 - Mary is the Mother of the Church

Math - money  Test on Wednesday.

ELA - Wonders- Unit 4 Week 5 Essential Question: How do people work with animals? Genre Focus: Informational text, Stories: “Time for Kids: From Puppy to Guide Dog”, and “Koko and Penny”, Oral vocabulary: advice, career, remarkable, soothe, trust, clever, signal  High Frequency Words: found, hard, near, woman, would, write

Fundations-Unit 11 Week 3 We continue long sounds and review short sounds, suffix s added to words with long vowel sounds, review marking words


Reminders:

~ we will have Mass for Monsignor Kaufman and an early dismissal, (11:50) on Friday May 3rd.

~We will have Mass on Thursday May 9th - Ascension Thursday at 9:30 am

~ please remember to send in Field Trip money and permission slips by Tuesday

~ Mother’s Day Cook Book recipes are needed by Friday May 3rd

~I will be sending a letter about an end of the year get together for First Grade and their 8th Grade Prayer Partners.  I will be asking you to send a gift card and a letter/card to school on the day of the Small party. Letter to come this week.
