Homework for Monday May 20, 2024
Religion- we practiced for the May Procession today. We will meet in Church tomorrow night. The children will sit with me and the other First Grade. We are off the main aisle, on the left side near the middle. You will see me. The May Procession starts in church and then we will move to begin a procession. First Grade leaves first and we are at the beginning of the Procession. You will be called to follow us.
* At the end of the day Sister Kate announced children should wear good clothes not the uniform to the May Procession.
ELA - I gave the children a paper with the Spelling words for the End of the Year test . The test will be Friday. We will review the words in class and have a practice test on Wednesday.
Reader- Please let your child read to you tonight. The story is "Kitten's First Full Moon", pages 162-193

Ask your child about the research work they are doing in class. They picked an animal and watched a video on Scholastic and read a magazine to find information to write at least 6 sentences in their copybooks. They can't wait till the end of the day to work on it.

We had a great day today. The children went to Mass with their Prayer Partners.
In Math the children used the coins I gave them to learn money . They took turns coming to my store with their money. They were able to buy different small toys and goodies. Check their white bag.
They had to tell me how much the item cost and they had to give me the correct amount. Amazing money counting was done by all!!
We also did a page in our Math book about time. Please go over the page in their folder for Time Patterns

Math- copybook activity - your child wrote the beginning of 3 fact families for 16. We did some in class.
Let your child show you how to write fact families. (There are a few children who are still struggling with this)
ELA - sentence paper. Trick words and Sight words. The last word is Easter Bunny. I hope I get some great sentences!
The Easter Egg Hunt was great. Every child could find 10 eggs. We gave the eggs back and the children have the candy in their bag.

Side 2 Mark it up. This is great practice for our Fundation test tomorrow. Children will be asked to mark words in the test tomorrow.
There are 2 examples to help. Children did this with me on Friday and I was outside the room while Mrs. M was in the room today, and she had them marking words.

Religion - today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe we talked about her and the story of Juan Diego. We watched a video.
Does your child remember about the miracle and the cloak?
Math - the children have an addition paper with a Santa. They are to do the addition facts tonight and they will color in class tomorrow.

Religion- children should light the second candle of the Advent Wreath they brought home last week.
ELA - Fundations Unit 6 information was sent home for you to read over. Unit 6 has 3 weeks of work. There is a Homework dictation for each night this week.- Children and I went over the work in class. Today you dictate the 3 words for Monday night. They are review words.

There were 6 children absent today. I did not do a new Math lesson. We did a Math sheet with subtraction problems. Children did a great job. Hopefully children will be back tomorrow.

Advent means coming Jesus, the savior is coming.

All children have a Leveled Reader. Please try to let your child read you the story.

Fundations Study and Practice Sheet - start the paper tonight. It is due back at school on Thursday.
Children were given a paper for First in Math- motivation to do it for 10 minutes a day.
No due date- send it back if you are able to do it and your child adds a star to our jar.

ELA - Unit 5 Fundations We are working on glued sounds all, am and an. There is a letter explaining the Unit. There is Homework for the Unit. You are going to do 2 parts tonight and the other two parts tomorrow night. You have to dictate words and sentences. I will go over it with the children. The paper for the dictation is on the back of the page titled Homework Guide. Send the completed paper back on Friday. Two night of Homework on one paper.

Religion- we continued the story of Adam and Eve today. We talked about Adam and Eve not obeying God.
God was not happy but he still loved them.They had to leave the garden. God promised to send a Savior
Math - only one side of the paper - page 37 Subtraction of 11 and 12
ELA - New sight words for Wonders - one, three, then, could and live. Children should write 4 sentences. One for each line.

Religion - We talked about Adam and Eve and their life in the Garden. In the center of the garden God placed the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God said, "You may eat from all the trees in the garden. But do not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil" Tomorrow we continue the story.
Math- children have an addition paper. Time them and see if they can finish the whole paper in 5 minutes.
ELA - sentence for the word again.
Parents, The Homeroom Mothers sent a letter out asking for a $20.00 fee for the activities they do during the school year. Over the weekend they asked me to remind some of you that they have not received the fee.
I sent a letter out today about the Card Exchange we will do on December 20th. If you have any questions let me know.

Sister gave the children a dress down day for tomorrow because everyone did such a great job.

Then work on the paper that is in the folder for ELA. Please work together on the answers.

ELA - Spelling test for these words:

Wilson Fundations - Tomorrow we will have the Unit 3 Fundation test. Digraphs: sh, ck, th, ch are on the test
Use the sheet I sent home to practice reading sentences and words with digraphs.
To get ready for the test say a letter sound, or a digraph sound and let your child tell you, or write the correct letter or digraph.
Say these words and have your child write the word:
Math, deck, bath, chip, lick, chop, mash
