s ❄️ January in 5th Grade ☃️
ELA- We will continue to wrap up Unit 3 of the Wonders reading series and move on to Unit 4. Our weekly stories will be expository text, biography, drama, and realistic fiction. We will continue to have story tests every other week and students can use their textbook for reference during the test. In writing we will focus on informational writing. Our grammar topics will focus on all types of pronouns. We will alternate between one week of spelling words and one week of vocabulary words using the Vocabulary Workshop book.
Math- This month the at level math class will focus on a review of multiplication with decimals and then move into division of decimals. Next we will diving in to all things fractions! Please continue to practice basic multiplication facts. Each day we use a site called Xtra Math for 10 minutes of focused fact practice. Students may access this at home to practice more. The quicker they are with their basic facts, the easier the larger problems will be. This will also be especially helpful as we move into work with fractions. *Honors math class- please refer to communication/Google classroom from Mrs. Burns.
Religion- We will work through Chapters 11-14 finishing up our study of the mass and moving on to the Sacraments of Healing.
Science- We will be exploring microscopes and observing plant and animal cells with them in the science lab. We will learn the differences in structure between plant and animal cells, as well as the parts of a microscope.
Social Studies- Students will work through Chapter 4 and continue learning states and capitals each week.
