☘️ March in 5th Grade ☘️
ELA- We will work through Unit 5 of the Wonders reading series. Our weekly stories will be expository text, realistic and historical fiction. We will continue to have story tests every other week and students can use their textbook for reference during the test. In writing we will focus on biographical writing and poetry. We will finish our special poetry project creating a class book of poems inspired by Kobe Bryant's "Dear Basketball." Our grammar topics will focus on clauses, complex sentences, and adjectives. We will alternate between one week of spelling words and one week of vocabulary words using the Vocabulary Workshop book.
Math- This month the at level math class will finish our exploration into fractions and focus on multiplying and dividing them. Please continue to practice basic multiplication facts. Each day we use a site called Xtra Math for 10 minutes of focused fact practice. Students may access this at home to practice more. The quicker they are with their basic facts, the easier the larger problems will be and basic facts are essential to success working with fractions. Next we will move on to graphing and geometry topics. *Honors math class- please refer to communication/Google classroom from Mrs. Burns.
Religion- We will work on the Sacraments at the Service of Communion- Holy Matrimony and Holy Orders. We will also spend time discussing the Lenten season. Each day we have been listening to a podcast called "Lent with the Saints." It has been informative thus far and introduces us to some saints we would not normally know about.
Science- We will finish up our study of animals and the food chain. We will move on to the human body and focus on inheritance and adaptations. Throughout the month we will be following the March Mammal Madness competition, learning about animals along the way and checking to see if the predictions we've made on our brackets are correct!
