Science Course Description

Our science class will be remote to start the year. This means we will have science online class and classwork every Monday and Thursday.

7th Grade Science: There are three major units in our Essential Learning Targets (ELTs) we will be studying: the human body, cells, and genetics . There will be strong emphasis on labs and demonstrations, project-based learning, vocabulary and student inquiry.

8th Grade Science: There are three major units in our Essential Learning Targets (ELTs) we will be studying: matter, heat energy, and waves. There will be strong emphasis on labs and demonstrations, project-based learning, vocabulary and student inquiry.

Labs: Science labs will be an integral part of our learning this year. Students will begin the year by discussing lab safety and signing a lab safety contract. All necessary safety precautions will be made to ensure students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning.

Project-based learning: Students will be given the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real world situations. These projects will require students to use their skills of inquiry and knowledge of the scientific method.

Vocabulary: Students will have vocabulary relevant to each learning target. Vocabulary lists can be found on my Quizlet.com website under the username ELLMemorial.

Student inquiry: Our classroom will be guided by students’ innate inquiry and desire to ask questions. These questions will direct our class and learning.
