This class is all about exploring music in a non performance based ensemble. We explore rhythm instruments such as conga, tubano and hand drums as well as woodblocks, claves, triangles, and cowbells. We spend some time playing melodic instruments such as glockenspiel or keyboards. We also just started using Ukuleles to study form, following lead sheets, and playing pop music. Finally, we spend time listening to and discussing all genres of music to understand the relationships between music and history/world cultures.
For each grade there are 7 standards. 2 are specialized to your grade level whereas there are 5 that you will be working each year (see above). All standards in music will be scored
1, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4. More specific breakdowns (rubrics) on how you will be scored on each target will be presented.
HOW
HOW grade is very important in chorus and music exploration. If you are really focusing on being prepared and engaged as well as having positive interactions you will be successful!
Prepared for Music means coming to class on time, with ipad, pencil and getting right to seat ready to work on bell work.
Engaged means participating actively. Actively listening, asking or answering questions, and trying your best on all activities.
Positive Interactions in class means treating each other with kindness and respect. Respecting each others personal spaces. Treating instruments with care. Being kind with your words and actions.
