This course is the first half of our American History curriculum.

This course will look at the political and economic traditions that our nation was founded on. The course will focus on America from early explorations through 1900, addressing the following: Fundamentals of Revolution; Principles of Government and Constitutions; Comparative Economic Systems; Rights, Responsibilities, and Participation of Citizens.
Class will connect our modern (current) world and issues with events and scenarios from the past
Topic will include but not be limited to:
European Exploration
Early Colonial life and governance
British Oppression
Revolutionary Ideas
Declaration of Independence
American Revolution
US Constitution
New American Government
Westward Expansion
Indian Removal
Slavery
Civil War
Reconstruction
Students will read, write and research these topics and will be required to demonstrate their understanding of the major points through short answers, brief essays, video and keynote presentations.

Utilize and communicate with the resources available i.e. Tom, Tania, Courtney, counselors etc.. The classroom is not the place for you to work out your personal issues. Please Talk To Us!!
Complete and homework in a timely manner
Be respectful to staff and students and to your classroom
In keeping with the SPHS Honor Code, your cell phone will be off at all times in class, unless with permission of the teacher or needed for academic reasons
In keeping with the SPHS Honor Code, your headphones will be off your ears and your music will be off during class time. We will indicate when an appropriate time is to use them
Be attentive and quiet when a teacher or other students are talking
Focus on yourself, not what others are doing or not doing in class
