What are the Risks for Students?

Most vaping devices contain nicotine, which is highly addictive. In fact, nicotine is as addictive as heroin and cocaine.

Nicotine exposure during adolescence can:

  • Harm brain development, which continues until about age 25.

  • Negatively impact learning, memory, and attention.

  • Increase risk for future addiction to other drugs

  • Nicotine is as addictive as heroin and cocaine.

  • Young people who vape are 4 times more likely to start smoking cigarettes.

MISSOURI VAPE-FREE SCHOOLS TOOLKIT

This Missouri Vape-Free Schools Toolkit is an additional resource created by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department in coordination with Tobacco Free Missouri as a guide to help your school or school district enhance your current tobacco policy to reflect the growing use of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). This toolkit contains information and resources, as well as recommendations, to help your school effectively implement, clearly communicate, enforce, and support a comprehensive tobacco-free plan that includes prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes.
