1) Complete the application
You can find the application on the college's admission website. If the application requires an essay, make sure to review the Top Ten Tips for Writing a College Essay. Colleges may also complete their application through the COMMON APP. This tool combines many colleges into one application!
2) Pay the application fee
If you are on free/reduced lunch, you can get the application fee to any college waived. See your counselor to apply. Some schools are waiving their application fee. Be sure to check their website for that information!
3) Send your transcript
Fill out this form to send your transcript and return it to Mrs McCrite. Do not fill out this form until you have applied for admission. If you are under 18, make sure to get this form signed by your parent/guardian. If you are using the Common App, your counselor will upload your transcript, not Mrs. McCrite.
4) Send your ACT scores
At Central, your transcript can include your ACT score. However, some schools require that your ACT score be sent directly from ACT. You can use the 4 free score report choices when you register for the ACT or send them directly from ACT's website for $13 per institution. As of the 2021-2022 ACT cycle, students who use a fee waiver can send score reports to up to 6 schools at no cost.
5) Add colleges to your FAFSA
After the FAFSA opens on October 1st, students can add 10 colleges choices to receive their FAFSA report. Make a list of every college you apply for during the year.
Use this worksheet to get a better awareness of different colleges!
Remember, a good match is a college that your academically qualified for and will be reasonably successful at. A good fit is everything else: Is it affordable? Is it close enough to home? Do you like the campus environment? And so on.
