There is a binder of standards, standard trimester schedules, and standard artifacts for each grade.
Inside, each standard is separated by the standard number, topic, and artifact.
There's a master copy on the back of the divider, and fresh copies ready for students after the coordinating divider.
Small slips, like exit slips, go in the back (detachable) pocket of the binder.
Each art standard has a "general" description and a grade-specific practice. In our Powerschool gradebook, each art standard looks the same for each grade, as in, each Visual Arts Standard 5 says: "Develop and refine artistic work for presentation." but the grade-specific standard 5 for fifth grade (as an example) is: "Develop a logical argument for safe and effective use of materials and techniques for preparing and presenting artwork." Grade-specific standards are related to the generally stated standard, as you can see in this example.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the standards and show their proficiency in each one. The images above show how each grade has a binder with different worksheets or assignment sheets or checklists in them.
Students show their proficiency with the following artifacts: models, observational checklist, photographs, artist statement, notes from individual conference, recorded interview, self-reflection sheets, exit slips, peer reviews, art criticism sheets.
The Critique Center is a way for students to check in with themselves and their peers concerning their artwork and art process. The Critique Center is always available with self-reflection sheets and peer-review sheets.
W.O.W. pieces are special pieces that students have taken their time to show their growth in art.
The list to the left is a list of requirements for making a "W.O.W." piece. W.O.W. pieces can be made of any material, any size, and any subject.
Generally, W.O.W. pieces help us to fulfill National Core Art Standard 5: "Develop and refine artistic work for presentation."
W.O.W. pieces are hung up in our hallway to show how we have grown in art!
