Girls Golf Teams - 2014, 2015, 2016
The 3 state championship teams formed by the Spring Lake Lakers were the result of a true dynasty assembled during Hall of Fame coach George Bitner’s tenure as Girls Golf Coach.The girls golf state championship is contested over 2 days and 36 holes.
The 2014 team claimed the school’s first golf state championship by rallying to an 18 stroke victory.
The 2015 team dominated by 70 strokes.
The 2016 team prevailed by 35 strokes.

David Kieft was a Spring Lake varsity and State of Michigan winning swimmer for SLHS for three years, qualifying for the State meet all three years. Dave won first place in the 100 yard freestyle and was the runner up in the 200 freestyle meet, both in 1981. Dave continued his swimming at Eastern Michigan University for four years and was inducted into the EMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999. Dave coached many swimmers who qualified for the YMCA National Swim Meets in Fort Lauderdale and the Long Course swim meets in College Park, Maryland.
Tricia Gregory Suchecki was a three sport athlete, winning varsity letters in golf, tennis, and volleyball. Tricia excelled in tennis and volleyball, receiving conference and regional recognition but her accomplishments in golf were at an even greater level of achievement. She was the State Champion Medalist at the Class B State Championship in 1993. At Michigan State University, Tricia earned varsity letters in golf and received Big TEN Academic/Athletic recognition. Tricia has participated in and in 1997 won the Spring Lake Invitational Tournament at Spring Lake Country Club.
Art Anderson was recognized by the Muskegon Chronicle in 2020 as one of the top five athletes from Spring Lake since 2000. On the football field, Art earned all-state special mention accolades as a senior and he was a two-time, first-team all-area performer by the Muskegon Chronicle. He set Spring Lake’s single-game rushing record with 275 yards. Anderson also was a nominee for the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Student-Athlete Award.
Anderson was a leader on the lone Spring Lake football team to make it to the state finals, rushing for 1,952 yards and registering 105 tackles during his senior season in 2000. Art was a three-year varsity starter in basketball and a two-year varsity baseball player.
Samantha Adams Bench was a letter winner in three sports during her time at Spring Lake. Leading up to winning the Len Fase Award her senior year, Sami was recognized as All Conference and All Area in both basketball and volleyball, leading in stats numerous times and serving a team captain for both sportsIn golf Sami was a regional runner up and finished in the top ten in the 1991 State tournament. Sami received All State academic recognition and was selected athlete of the week multiple times. As an athletic and academic scholarship student at Aquinas, Sami participated in basketball 4 years, her senior year as captain, was recognized on the WHAC Women’s Basketball Academic Team in 1993 and 1994.
Remzi Sipahi was a standout athlete for SLHS in soccer, tennis, and basketball, receiving Conference and State level honors in soccer and basketball. Sipahi was recognized by the Grand Haven Tribune, Muskegon Chronicle, Detroit Free Press, and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan for his superior play. He was selected as the SLHS Len Fase award his senior year. Sipahi works as a pediatric sports medicine physician helping injured adolescent athletes return to playing sports.
