Internet Safety

Librarians teach a variety of lessons.

Elementary librarians spend time teaching young ones how to care for books, how to find books, how to read the call number/spine labels, how libraries work (circulation, information seeking, reference materials, and online materials). They also teach a love of reading through storytimes, author studies, genre studies, and programs like book fairs. Little ones can be taught research through the Big3 and older students can learn research through the Big6.

Secondary librarians continue to work on a love of reading through booktalks, booktrailers, shelf talkers, and displays. Book fairs are more common in middle school than high school since the high school book fairs that are sent are still geared toward middle school at this time. Secondary teachers also teach sound research strategies and work in collaboration with classroom teachers to support their lessons.

All librarians support the curriculum (TEKS) for all subjects and collaboration with teachers is highly desired.

In addition, librarians have state, national, and international standards that they follow.

All librarians teach Digital Citizenship. This includes topics for grade appropriateness, such as:
