Naval Science Curriculum
The NJROTC curriculum consists of classroom learning, community service activities, drill competitions, field meets, marksmanship training, naval orientation field trips and other interactive training opportunities.
The weekly plan described below is based upon an Alternating Block Schedule.
Monday
Uniform Inspection (graded event) and Academics in their designated classrooms. Cadets wear uniform throughout the school day to avoid receiving a zero for uniform grade. The only exceptions to this are if a cadet is going to a class where that cadet will be involved in activities that might permanently soil or damage the uniform or they are going to an athletic practice (prior approval/notification of this event is required and must be approved by the NJROTC Instructors).
Tuesday

Wednesday
Drill Day. Cadets are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes for Drill or bring shoes or clothes that they can quickly change into for the drill period, which is normally conducted outside.

Friday
Physical Training. Each cadet will be given time to change into appropriate gym attire, prior to physical training. Cadets are encouraged to bring gym clothes, a towel, and a padlock. Lockers are available for use during their period only, and will be cleaned out daily. Spraying of deodorant, perfume, cologne, etc. is not authorized in NJROTC spaces. If a cadet feels a need to use these products they should do so outside, away from all doorways.
Important Information concerning Grades
Guidelines for Success and Grading Criteria: Daily participation and academic assignments account for 25% of your grade. Assignments will be posted on the white board in each classroom during the week. It is the Cadets responsibility to make up assignments.)
Cadets must wear the uniform on uniform days and as prescribed and on other days/special occasions as required. Uniform grades count as a major grade or 50% of your total grade. If absent on uniform day, the Cadet must wear their uniform their very first day back to school after their absence to receive full grade credit unless they have made prior arrangements with the NJROTC Instructors.
Participation in drill and physical training will account for 25% of your grade. Grades are based on classroom behavior, punctuality, participation, being prepared for class (paper, pencils, etc.), following directions given by the Class Leaders and instructors.
Tutoring Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 2:45 PM-3:45 PM.
Classroom Rules & Policies
Entering the Classroom: Cadets will meet daily at the beginning of their period for attendance (muster) and passing of information contained in the Plan of the Week in the Rifle Range. Cadets will line up in a military formation at the position of attention, Squad Leaders take muster and Instructors will check for dress code violations. Attendance will be taken and word passed, then cadets will be released to follow the Plan of the Day.
Tardy Policy: Cadets should go to go to the closest office or tardy station to receive a tardy pass, and then return to NJROTC class with their pass in hand and check in with their instructor.
Academic Assignments: Academic assignments are normally completed in class and turned into the instructor. Instructors will grade the assignments and return them in a timely manner. Nearly all academic tests in the NJROTC classrooms are conducted /taken with the Navy’s Turning Point Cloud (TPC) System (clickers).
Checking Grades: All grades will be posted to the grade book on a weekly basis.
Communication with parents and families: NJROTC Instructor emails and phone numbers are provided in the heading of the syllabus. Email addresses are provided on this website (Instructor Bios). All parents are encouraged to email instructors with questions or concerns.
Note Cadet Parents: A separate NJROTC forms packet will be sent home early in the semester. Cadets shall turn-in completed forms by the due date specified. No cadet will be considered for any trips or NJROTC sponsored events if these forms have not been submitted. Additionally, Cadets with excessive absences or failing grades will not be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities or field trips. All parents are encouraged to join and participate in Booster Club meetings.
