Read everyday for at least 20 minutes
Read aloud with a partner. This could be a family member or a friend.
Read in a comfortable place with good lighting.
Read everything such as newspapers, magazines, books, comics, graphic novel, picture books, chapter books, and EBooks.
Read what you like. What are you interested in?
Talk about what you are reading.
Keep a reading journal. In it list what you have read and your thoughts about it as you read and after you are finished.

The Texas Library Association creates a variety of suggested reading lists for all ages. These are merely suggestions, not requirements. Librarians will purchase titles they feel are suitable for their campuses and may not have every title on these lists.
The 2X2 Reading List is for ages 2 through 2nd grade and is updated in January.
The Texas Bluebonnet Reading List is for grades 3-6.
The Tejas Star list is for bilingual students ages 5-12. This list is released in February.
The Little Maverick list is for graphic novels aimed at grades K-5.
The Texas Topaz Reading list is nonfiction for all ages.
