proposed Projects
We take pride in maintaining our five school buildings, and like any space used daily, we need to invest in the nuts and bolts that keep things running smoothly. That’s why our district did a thorough review of all infrastructure and found the most pressing needs to be:
A large-scale overhaul of our Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in most of our schools. We can’t ignore the problems: heating systems failing in cold months, and inefficient window air conditioning units in warmer months driving up energy costs.
Updates to critical infrastructure, like bathrooms that need new plumbing and efficient toilets/faucets, new unit ventilators for ventilation and heating, renovations in classrooms that haven’t received attention in a long time – all projects that will help avoid costly future repairs by upgrading systems and spaces now so they can last decades more.
Prioritization of safety and security, including better quality cameras that police can access in emergencies and ballistic glazed exterior doors, both of which are becoming standards in schools across the country.
what's included in each question?
Question 1: TAX NEUTRAL
HEATING AND VENTILATION, SAFETY AND SECURITY
All five schools would receive security upgrades, including new cameras that capture better quality footage, are motion activated, and connect to a cloud-based video system that police and school staff can access during emergencies, and new exterior doors with ballistic glazing for added protection.
Other updates would include:
Jonathan Dayton High School
Bathroom renovations that would improve plumbing and sewer systems, as well as update bathroom fixtures to more efficient faucets with touchless sensors and autoflush toilets/urinals
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades in the cafeteria, two gyms, and auditorium/stage (includes new roof-top units)
Heating and ventilation upgrades for 49 classrooms (includes new unit ventilators)
Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School
Heating and ventilation upgrades for 31 classrooms (includes new unit ventilators)
Electrical service upgrades to support the new HVAC systems
James Caldwell Elementary School
Bathroom renovations that would improve plumbing and sewer systems, as well as update bathroom fixtures to more efficient faucets with touchless sensors and autoflush toilets/urinals
Basement renovations and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades for 3 classrooms
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades for the Multi-Purpose Room and Media Center (includes new roof-top units)
Thelma L. Sandmeier Elementary School
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades for the Multi-Purpose Room and Media Center (includes new roof-top units)
Edward V. Walton Early Childhood Center
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades for the Multi-Purpose Room and Media Center (includes new roof-top units)
Stormwater management to keep water away from the school through better grading and drainage to ensure we don’t have flooding
All five schools would also be put on a building management system that provides overarching control of the HVAC system across school buildings. This would allow maintenance staff to monitor and check on equipment more frequently from a phone or tablet and troubleshoot problems remotely without having to respond to a specific classroom or building. Maintenance staff can also control temperatures based on whether a space is occupied or unoccupied, which would significantly reduce the district’s energy bills.
