JDHS Jazz Lab

About the JDHS Jazz Lab

Any high school student who plays (or wishes to play) a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument, as well as guitar, bass or piano is welcome to join the JDHS Band. Our program consists of three primary categories: Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Lab.

The Jazz Lab ensemble meets Thursdays after school beginning in November, and runs until the Spring Concert in May.

The focus of the Jazz Lab is to build understanding of interpretation, musicality and especially improvisation skills over a variety of jazz, etc. pieces of music. Not all students are required to be able to improvise, but it is a focal point of the group.

Group-thinking, group-arranging and jamming are encouraged, so bring your skill set and creativity, and get ready to work cooperatively to play in a flexible combo style.
