The year has begun well and this year we have 76 new instrumentalists, which must be a record.
If there is any uncertainty about lesson times, please contact Mrs Calthorpe at the Music School.
Some musical events to look forward to this term are:
- Mike McCully & The Harmonix will be playing a concert in our gardens on Saturday evening 15 February. Bring your picnics and enjoy some great 80's Music. Our choir will be featuring in two of the songs. This is going to be a real fun event. Gates open at 15h00 and Mike's band starts playing at 17h00. There will also be raffles with some great prizes to be won.
- Our girls are playing and singing in various ensembles and choirs at the PTA Fair on 28 February, which will also feature bands from Michael Oak School, Wynberg Boys' High School and Bishops.
- On Sunday 15 March at the Constantia Catholic Church, our touring choir will be singing the Sunday Morning Mass. They will be singing Gabriel Fauré's Messe Basse. That starts at 09h00.
- This Term's Quarterly Concert will be on Tuesday 3 March at 18h30 in the Music Hall. This will feature some fine playing by some of our girls who have been working hard as well as our orchestra playing a Dvorak Slavonic Dance.
Once again we welcome our new teachers, Mrs Groenmeyer, Ms Garden and Ms Dilkes to Springfield.
Springfield Convent Choir Tour 2020 Fundraiser Concert
Mike & the Harmonix will be performing A Tribute to ABBA at Springfield on Saturday, February 15, as part of the Senior Choir Tour fundraising efforts. The show will also feature special guest appearances by 1980’s icons “Michael Jackson”, “Tina Turner”, “Bob Marley”, “The Beatles” and “Queen”.
Mike (of the McCully Workshop and Buccaneer fame) and his band promise an evening of fun, laughter, song and dance as they bring ABBA to life with all the well-known favourites such as Waterloo, Money Money Money, Take a Chance, Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia.
The show will be simply the best, one that you can definitely take a chance on, so don’t worry about a thing ‘cos it’s gonna be a kind of magic… and you’re welcome to twist and shout.
Tickets: R150 for adults, R80 for scholars and under 10s are free of charge.
Gates open: 3.30pm
Band performs: 5 to 7pm
What to bring: picnic and refreshments along with picnic blanket/camp chairs etc.
A raffle with lots of awesome prizes will also take place on the day.

Last Night the Culture Club went to the Fugard Theatre to see Athol Fugard's Master Harold and the Boys.
It was an excellent performance and had a significant impact on the girls who thoroughly enjoyed the outing.
Amaqhawekazi are heroines, women who come together for change. Girls are invited to join us for an evening of community and culture as they are entertained by various Springfield groups including the marimba band, Ubuntu Choir and Glee Club, and individuals performing poetry and drama monologues.
The event will be held in the Centenary Hall from 5-8 pm on the 13th of February. Food and cold drinks can be purchased from the tuck shop. Dress is school uniform.
All Xhosa students and members of the Ubuntu society are expected to attend so need not sign up. All others can sign up on the list on the board outside Room 3 by Friday 6th of February.
