Sport

Our new Grade 8's had a lot of fun during Orientation week experiencing the Sports that Springfield have to offer. We hope that they will take the every opportunity that Springfield Sport has to offer and embrace our wonderfully diverse sports portfolio with a sense of spirit and cameraderie throughout the duration of their next five years with us.

Our first Water-polo matches against Westerford were very exciting, with the U14s and U16s stealing wins over the opposition, whilst our firsts held their own against very strong opposition for two chukkas before succumbing to the intense pressure of a tough game, although they fought to the bitter end. What was most impressive was the number of Springfield students who came to support their peers! This was such a wonderful display of Springfield spirit.

This week we see Indoor hockey matches, a swimming gala and Water-polo matches all taking place and U14 trials on Saturday. Please check the extra mural timetable for practices and the fixtures timetable for match fixtures and times.

Waterpolo

Last Friday the Waterpolo teams played against Westerford for their first match of the season. The brand new U14 team, which consisted of some grade 8s that had never played before, did exceptionally well to win 14 - 2. The U16s proceeded to take our second win with a score of 7 - 0. The first team battled a remarkably strong Westerford side, where in the third chukka we were only 4 - 3 down. At the end of an exciting game for the large group of supporters, we unfortunately lost 8 - 3.

Non School Sport

Congratulations to Francesca and Danella Quercia, age fifteen, who were awarded their junior black belts in Kimura Shukokai International Karate.

Both girls have also qualified to represent South Africa in the World Championships which will be hosted in Cape Town in July of this year.

Well done on this incredible achievement!
