CXC CSEC AND FUNDAMENTALS
CXC CSEC AND FUNDAMENTALS
• 2-Day per week Mathematics
• 2-Day per week Principles of Accounts
In addition to the usual 1-Day per week classes, we also offer 2-day per week classes in Mathematics and POA.
See the Courses, Timetable or Programme Tuition Fees pages for further information and cost.
It is believed that students of the 2-day per week Mathematics and Principles of Accounts courses can significantly benefit from attending classes for those subjects twice per week instead of the usual 1 day per week classes currently offered, given the rigour of those subjects and time constraint of 9 months within which to complete the courses and better cover the syllabus.
Note that the usual 1-day per week classes are still available.
Fundamentals of Maths
(Basic Maths) (Tuesdays)
Fundamentals of English
(Basic English) (Thursdays)
We offer Fundamentals of Maths and Fundamentals of English classes. These classes are not associated with CXC, they are not pre-requisites, nor are they mandatory. They are designed to prepare students for the more rigorous CXC 9-month classes the following year. The classes are simply recommended to students who lack the foundational concepts of those subjects, are not confident in the subject, have not sat the CSEC subject within the past 4 years, or who received a grade higher than 4 at their last sitting.
Anyone can enroll in the CSEC courses as usual.
Note that if you sign up for the Fundamentals classes it is strongly recommended that you do not sit the CSEC courses at the end of the academic year. This is because the Fundamentals classes do not follow the CSEC syllabus.
This courses will last for the duration of the academic year.
Students who complete the Fundamentals course can, if they so wish, enroll the following year to attend the regular CSEC class.
The Fundamentals courses cost the same as the regular CSEC courses; $350.
Note that you CANNOT register with us to attend both the Fundamentals course and the CXC CSEC course at the same time.
Switching from CSEC Maths or English to Fundamentals of Maths or English, or vice versa:
Any student in the CSEC Maths or English class is free to switch over, before Wednesday 15 October 2025, at no extra cost, to the Fundamentals of Maths or English class, however, they must first apply in writing to the office at tertiary@springer.edu.bb.
What are SBAs, and is it important for me to know what they are?
SBAs are critical to be aware of.
What are SBAs?
An SBA is an individual or group project conducted during the course of the Programme by the tutor. It is created and submitted by the student, and assessed by the tutor, using criteria provided by CXC.
Several of our courses carry an SBA component:
CSEC Mathematics
Biology
EDPM
Information Technology
Social Studies - Wednesdays only
(See our Timetable for details)
SBA scores contribute to anywhere between 20% and 30% of the candidate's overall examination grade, depending on the subject.
Candidates who complete an SBA will NOT have to sit the 3rd CXC exam.
Students who register in the Continuing Education Programme for subjects that carry SBAs will NOT be registered to sit the 3rd exam at the time of registering for CXC exams - they must submit an SBA.
