Students beginning a new instrument at the start of the school year will be scheduled for a lesson once per week. Lessons will always be held on the same day of the week (i.e. Tuesday), but they will occur on a rotating schedule so that students only miss the same class once every 6 weeks. Lessons for beginning string students will begin the week of September 18th.
New lesson schedules are posted on the music room doors and given to all homeroom teachers each week. The lesson schedule will also be posted on this website. It is the student's responsibility to know when their next lesson is and remember to leave class at the appropriate time--Mrs. K will not call the classroom each week to remind you.
Students who are beginning a new instrument will not perform in the winter concert or come to after-school orchestra rehearsals until after winter break. This way, the students will have adequate preparation time to learn the necessary skills required on their chosen instrument at their group lessons before being placed in the large ensemble.
In addition to obtaining a quality instrument, the required method book for all beginning string students is "Essential Elements Book 1." The book can be purchased from Zeswitz music by placing an order here at the Intermediate School, or it should be available for purchase at most local music stores.
