Overview: What's happening in the Junior Koru Programme in 2026?
Below is an outline of what activities/topics students may be working on during 2026 in their Koru LA class - which occurs two hours each week - one hour on a Monday period 5, and one hour on a Friday period 1. These activities/topics are a guide only as LA teachers cater for the individual needs and interests of their own classes. These activities sit alongside encouraging and mentoring students for academic excellence throughout the year, and other tasks that need to be done during Learning Advisory time that all students do - such as course selection in Term 3, assemblies and/or hapu events. At the moment, there are no official offsite trips or events planned for Koru Programme students in 2026 (organised by the school during school time). This may change as the year progresses, and if so you will be contacted. Outside of school, events occasionally pop up that parents may wish to consider taking their child to. For example the Wellington Model UN event coming up in March, or the Auckland Aotearoa Youth Declaration event in April. If you are interested, you’ll need to organise all details and cover all costs yourself.
In class over the year with their teacher, junior students can expect:
Critical thinking activities.
In-depth exploration of New Zealand History.
Opportunity to complete a Level One NCEA assessment.
Interpersonal skills.
Academic progress tracked and monitored.
