The Spoofhound Athletics Hall of Fame in Maryville, Missouri, honors teams and individuals who excelled in various athletic activities over the school district’s storied history or who contributed to Spoofhound Athletics in a meaningful or impactful way. This includes athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, community members and media. Individual nominees must be a graduate of Maryville High School or someone who contributed to Spoofhound Athletics in a meaningful or impactful way (such as a coach, administrator, community member, or media member).
Priority will be given to those with significant athletic accomplishments on the high school level, including legacy, sportsmanship, performance and character within the school and Maryville communities. While accomplishments after high school will be taken into account (for example, performance at the collegiate or professional level), a nominee’s case will center most on performance while at MHS.
There are four categories of recipients to be considered for this honor.
1. Student-Athletes
2. Coaches
3. Teams
4. Contributors to Maryville High School athletics programs
After the inaugural class, the committee may elect up to five inductees (3 athletes, 1 coach/contributor and 1 team) annually. A quorum at any Hall of Fame-related committee meeting is needed to act on nominations. A quorum shall be considered the majority of the total membership of any committee.
Criteria for Selection of Student Athletes:
1. The person must be an alumnus of Maryville High School
2. Nominees must be a graduate of Maryville High School for no less than 10 years.
3. Eligible persons must have accomplished at least 2 of the following:
*Have been a multiple varsity letter winner.
*Have earned at least two varsity letters in two different sports.
* Have been a multiple year or sport all-conference selection.
*The individual may be eligible if he/she was a state champion or place winner in an individual sport.
*The individual may be eligible if he/she received recognition as all-state in their sport.
4. Moral character, good citizenship and academic performance during high school and post-high school will be considered.
5. Although athletic achievement while attending Maryville High School is of prime importance, outstanding accomplishments after leaving Maryville High School will also be considered.
Criteria for Selection of Coaches
1. The person must have been a head coach at Maryville High School for a minimum of 5 years or an assistant at Maryville High School for more than 10 years.
2. Three years must elapse after the completion of their tenure as coach at Maryville High School before consideration for selection OR have reached the age of 65 years old.
3. Moral character, good citizenship and career performance will be considered.
4. Other factors that will be considered include overall coaching record, accomplishment of athletes in their program, contributions to the Maryville High School athletic program and recognition by state/national
organizations.
Criteria for Selection of a Team
1. For teams who have made a substantial contribution to the Maryville High School athletic/school climate.
2. Ten years must elapse after the completion of the team's successes.
3. The team may be eligible if it was a state champion or place winner in state competition.
4. Moral character, good citizenship and community service of the team will be considered.
Criteria for Selection of Contributors to Maryville High School Athletics
1. For individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Maryville High School athletic program.
2. Considerations for selection include:
*Length of time the nominee has contributed to the Maryville High School athletic program.
*Involvement in projects that have made an impact on Maryville High School.
*Moral character, good citizenship and career performance.
*Distinguished contributions to society.
3. Individuals may be employees of the Maryville School District.
Awards, Rights, and Privileges
1. Membership is a lifetime award.
2. Hall Fame members may be removed for character or citizenship incidents that are identified as unbecoming of a Hall of Fame member. Removal from the Hall of Fame will require a unanimous vote from the Hall of Fame Committee.
3. Recognition of a new Hall of Fame class will include: Introduction of the new class at a home sporting contest. Induction social will part of that weekend’s festivities.
4. Each individual Hall of Fame member will receive: an induction gift, name on a recognition plaque in the MHS hallway, and any additional benefits as rewarded by the Hall of Fame.
If any member of the selection committee (or family member) is nominated for this recognition, they must recuse themselves from any and all discussion/vote regarding that individual/team.
