On Friday, March 3rd, Brunner will be hosting author Anica Mrose Rissi at Brunner as a finale to our Read Across America week! Anica (A-KNEE-Kah) "is the award-winning author of more than a dozen books for kids and teens, including the Anna, Banana series; Hide and Don’t Seek: And Other Very Scary Stories; Love, Sophia on the Moon (winner of the 2021 Paterson Prize and the 2021 Maine Literary Award)." She is eager and excited to join us and meet our students to discuss elements of the writing process.

I wanted to share with you some information about who she is, where to find her books, and provide you with our Author Visit schedule for March 3rd in the MPR.

I will be reading from some of her stories during our Library time during the month of February in order to familiarize students with her work and writing style, but please feel free to also include some of her work within your own classrooms as well :). The attachment from the author below will be provided to students in a hard copy format as well as posted on our media center website and Google Classroom pages, but again, feel free to share with your classrooms as well.

For fourth grade students, we will discuss an optional writing contest during book exchange for students to participate in with the hopes of getting to have lunch with the author as a prize!

Here is the schedule for the author visit on 3/3:

  • 9-9:45am: 1st & 2nd grade assembly in MPR

  • 10-10:45am: 4th grade assembly in MPR
