The Junior Royalty is just a part of the 139 year old tradition of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. The Junior Royalty program dates back to the 1940s and has invited young men and women serve in the royal court each year as goodwill ambassadors from the Winter Carnival to our neighboring communities. The Junior Court makes about 75-100 appearances throughout the year while learning public speaking skills, interpersonal skills, and serving the community in various service projects. 

The court is selected each year through a candidacy process consisting of service projects, a fundraiser, etiquette training, public Winter Carnival events, and a personal interview with a panel of judges. Candidates are at least 12 years old at the time the applications are due and not yet 16.
