Spectrum Academy Assistive Technology (AT) Referral Process:
- Contact your student’s occupational therapist (OT), speech-language pathologist (SLP), or campus instructional coach. They can conduct an initial screening and can provide recommendations for assistive technology to be used to support academic goals.
- Alternatively, the Spectrum Academy OT/Speech department can determine if a referral to the AT team is needed. If a full evaluation is needed, you and/or the related service provider can contact your AT team.
- You will be sent an “initial referral form” via email, which will be used to describe the student’s needs.
- A member from the AT team will contact the student’s IEP team to schedule a date and time for evaluations. Evaluations typically take place 2 times per month on Thursdays.
- UATT team lead will assign evaluation to appropriate team members
- Evaluation will be completed within 45 school days and evaluation report will be completed and placed in the student’s permanent SPED file.
- Results and suggestions will be reported to the student’s IEP team.
- Recommended devices/equipment will be placed with the student for 30 days, along with necessary data tracking forms.
- Teacher/classroom staff will complete data tracking forms and return forms to the AT team.
- If student is successful with the device, the IEP team will determine if it is necessary, and a permanent device will be provided by LEA. If device is not successful, the AT team will re-assess and make additional recommendations and/or provide necessary training to assist with device implementation.
- AT usage tracking will be completed by teacher/classroom staff/related service provider during predetermined activities throughout the student’s academic week.
