The SPCC RoP programme, now in its thirteenth year, is a 24-day outdoor and experiential education programme that demonstrates the commitment of SPCC in providing a holistic education to students. It gives students a supported experience that is mentally, emotionally and physically challenging and helps them to better understand themselves, others and the world around them.
Our previous programmes have been extremely successful and have left a lasting impression on the hundreds of students who have experienced the challenging and fulfilling RoP journey, which enables them to see that they are capable of much more than they think.
The name Rites of Passage (RoP) is taken from the anthropological term describing the ritual event that marks a person’s progress from one stage in life to another. SPCC sees the end of Form 3 and Form 4 as a transition period where students move from junior secondary into senior secondary, along with all of the increased responsibility that accompanies this stage in their lives.
During the programme students will be working together in groups of 15, carefully guided by 2 instructors from Higher Ground Group (HGG). They will complete a variety of outdoor activities, land & water based expeditions, and academically focused enquiry-based learning (EBL) projects. They will live closely together in a community of challenge, care and responsibility alongside their peers, instructors and accompanying SPCC teachers.
