The Southern Lehigh School District has established ongoing procedures to actively locate, identify, and assess students who exhibit gifted qualities and would benefit from specially tailored instruction.
As per school district policy 114, giftedness is defined as having an IQ of 130 or higher, or meeting multiple criteria outlined in Pennsylvania regulations through Chapter 16 (22 Pa.Code 16.21).
The primary goal of the gifted education program is to serve students whose needs extend beyond the typical general education classroom environment, requiring enrichment, acceleration, or a combination of both (i.e., enrichment and acceleration).
Southern Lehigh School District is dedicated to nurturing the interests, capabilities, and essential skills necessary for independent intellectual inquiry and lifelong learning.
Identified 4th through 6th grade gifted students participate in enrichment pull-out classes and often receive differentiation of curriculum in the general education classroom.
