About Me
Hello! I am Susan Olinik, 2nd grade teacher at Hopewell Elementary. This is my fifteenth year as an employee of Southern Lehigh School District.
I graduated from Shippensburg University in 2007, with a B.S.Ed in Elementary Education with a minor in reading. I received my teaching certificate in Elementary K-6. I completed my Master's degree in reading at East Stroudsburg University on 2020.
I have been working in Southern Lehigh since 2007, when I was hired as an Instructional Assistant at Hopewell Elementary. During my first year at Hopewell, I spent most of the year as a one-on-one IA, but moved into the position of RtII Aide in May of 2008. I worked as Hopewell's RtII Aide until June of 2014, though during that time I also was a long-term substitute twice: first, in 2010, covering the maternity leave of Kim Oakes (Kindergarten), and again in 2013 covering the maternity leave of Sara Hovis at Lower Milford (IST/Tech Smarts). I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher in 2014, and switched to second grade in 2016.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Matt, who teaches middle school in North Penn, and our dog, Patrick, a 5-year-old pit mix, who we adopted in the midst of quarantine in spring of 2020. We like to spend our time traveling, going for walks, playing video games (I spent this past summer perfecting my island on Animal Crossing), and doing our own "Chopped" cooking challenges in our kitchen at home.
I also enjoy reading, cross-stitching, and baking. I play the euphonium (google it!) in the Liberty High School Alumni Band.
