Sparta Girls Lacrosse History

2024 Season

In the 2024 season, under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Jack Bushey, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team achieved an impressive 15-5 record. This marks only the third time in program history that the team has won 15 games in a single season. They also excelled in conference play, posting a 6-1 record. Highlighting their remarkable season, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team advanced to the state sectional semifinals for the first time since 2018 after defeating Pascack Valley in the quarterfinal round, showcasing their talent and determination throughout the year. 

2023 Season

In the 2023 season, under the leadership of Head Coach Alex Takacs, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team posted a commendable 12-8 record. They displayed strength with notable victories against Mahwah, Kittatinny, Kinnelon, and Mount Olive. The Sparta Girls Lacrosse team made a mark in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, advancing to the semifinal round before losing to a tough North Hunterdon team. The season came to a close in the quarterfinal round against West Essex, where they gave a strong performance.

2022 Season

In the 2022 season, led by Head Coach Alex Takacs, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team achieved a commendable 12-7 record. Notable victories included wins against Jefferson, Vernon, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, and Morristown-Beard. They also made their appearance in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, reaching the semifinal round, and in the NJSIAA Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals against Somerville. 

2021 Season

In the 2021 season, under Head Coach Kate Brennan, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team faced challenges, finishing with a 4-12 record. Despite difficulties, they secured notable victories against Roxbury, Kinnelon, and Morris Hills. In the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, they reached the quarterfinals, as well as clinching a playoff birth in the state tournament. 

2020 Season

2019 Season

In the 2019 season, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, led by Head Coach Kate Brennan, achieved an 8-8 record. They demonstrated determination with notable victories against Pascack Valley, Mount Olive, Randolph, Morris Catholic, Roxbury, and Pope John. Their presence in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament included advancing to the semifinals. In the NJSIAA Tournament, they lost in a close first-round matchup against Lakeland. 

2018 Season

In the 2018 season, under Head Coach Kate Brennan, the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team achieved a 12-8 record. They demonstrated their #16 ranking in the state with notable victories against Immaculate Heart, Mountain Lakes, Pope John, Kinnelon, and a successful tournament run, securing the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Championship.  Not only did the 2018 win HWS Championship, but they also won the State Sectional Title against Indian Hills.  The team would make it all the way to the Group 2 State Championship and unfortunately lose to state powerhouse Haddonfield. The season was the most successful in Sparta Girls Lacrosse history.

2017 Season

The 2017 season was truly exceptional for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, led by Head Coach Kate Brennan. With an outstanding 18-3 record, the team left an amazing mark. Their journey was characterized by a string of remarkable victories, most notably their win over Ramapo in the State Sectional Final. Aside from the win over Ramapo, the season featured other  impressive wins against tough opponents such as North Hunterdon in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament Semifinal Round. The 2017 season will be remembered as a special chapter in the team's history, symbolizing their commitment, skill, and the well-deserved recognition they received in the world of girls' lacrosse.

2016 Season

The 2016 season was a standout year for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, boasting an impressive 14-5 record and undefeated in the NJIGLL - Freedom North division. Under the leadership of Head Coach Kate Brennan, the team demonstrated their prowess on the field with notable wins against Montville, Roxbury, Mahwah, and Madison. They showcased their resilience with victories in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, reaching the final round before facing Hunterdon Central. The team had a performance in the NJSIAA Tournament, securing wins against West Milford and Pope John. Although the season concluded in the semifinals against Bernards, the team's success lead to a season filled with memorable moments for the program. 

2015 Season

The 2015 season was a remarkable journey for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, culminating in a stellar 13-5 record and an impressive 4-1 performance in the NJIGLL - Freedom North division. Under Head Coach Kate Brennan, the team displayed their determination and skill throughout the season. They secured significant victories against strong opponents such as Roxbury, Ramapo, and Caldwell. Their remarkable run in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament included victories against Warren Hills and Delaware Valley before losing to Hunterdon Central in the finals. In the NJSIAA Tournament, they started with wins against Old Tappan and Jefferson. The season concluded with a narrow loss to Hopewell Valley in the NJSIAA Tournament.

2014 Season

The 2014 season was a competitive year for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, ending with a 10-9 record. While the team faced its share of challenges, they displayed resilience and determination throughout the season. Notable victories included impressive wins against Indian Hills, Kinnelon, and Montville. The team showcased their talent in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, securing a resounding victory against North Warren before facing a tough Hunterdon Central team in the quarterfinal round. Their journey in the NJSIAA Tournament featured dominant performances against Old Tappan and Wayne Hills. The season concluded with a closely contested semifinal round against Morristown in the NJSIAA Tournament.

2013 Season

The 2013 season was a standout year for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, boasting an exceptional 18-2 record. Under the leadership of Head Coach Kate Brennan, the team showcased their dominance on the field with a series of remarkable victories. They began the season with resounding wins against Lenape Valley, Kittatinny, and Newark Academy, setting the tone for their season. Notable highlights included impressive victories against Pope John, Livingston, and Morristown-Beard. In the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, they secured commanding wins over Lenape Valley and Delaware Valley, before losing the final round to a great North Hunterdon team. The NJSIAA Tournament featured exciting wins against Wayne Valley, West Milford, and Montville. The season concluded with a closely contested semifinal round against Princeton in the NJSIAA Tournament.

2012 Season

The 2012 season was a competitive year for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team, concluding with a commendable 12-8 record. Notable victories included thrilling wins against Glen Rock and DePaul, setting a positive tone for the season. The team faced many great opponents such as Mahwah and Northern Highlands throughout the season. Their journey in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament included a quarterfinal round appearance against a very good North Hunterdon team. In the NJSIAA Tournament, they secured a victory against Pascack Valley. Although the season concluded with a challenging match against Chatham in the second round of the state playoffs, the team put together a nice season.

2011 Season

 The 2011 season for the Sparta Girls Lacrosse team ended with an impressive 12-6 record. Notable wins against Passaic Valley, Pope John, and others demonstrated their potential. The team faced formidable opponents such as Vernon, Caldwell, and Kinnelon, challenging themselves against tough competitors. In the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament, they competed start to finish in the quarterfinal round against North Hunterdon before losing 15-9. The NJSIAA Tournament featured a thrilling first-round victory against Wayne Hills. Sparta would then play in the quarterfinal round and lose against Mendham.
