Read. Act. Share.
At Alpine Elementary School, we believe that reading is an important, lifelong skill. I'd love to encourage students to interact with text in a meaningful way by providing opportunities for authentic, real-world connections between reading and learning.
READ:
Reading can take many forms and reading widely can help to identify reading preferences. I encourage the students to read all text types.
Examples:
Menus
Cookbook recipes
Newspapers
Maps/Street Signs/Store Signs
Comic Books
Travel Brochures
Instructional Manuals
Fiction
Non Fiction
Etc.
ACT:
The purpose of reading is to gain meaning from text. By acquiring information and knowledge, we are impacted by reading and grow as individuals. Students are encouraged to practice the art of active reading by selecting text(s) that inspire them to take action, have a new idea, create, navigate, or think differently.
SHARE:
Each student is encouraged to share their experience, demonstrating how reading impacted their life. Students can bring me a photo of the book and action the reading material inspired and it will be hung in the hallway outside of the Library Media Center.
This is not a mandatory assignment - it's only for fun! :-)
