FAQ's

  1. When would I complete a TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE FORM?

Complete this form when you have a problem related to your Chromebook or charger.

  1. When would I complete a GUIDANCE ASSISTANCE FORM?

Complete this form when you need to be contacted by a guidance counselor from our school. Guidance counselors are available to you if you have questions about your path to graduation, level of courses, concerns about your family or home situation, or any social and emotional needs.

  1. What do I do if my APEX is locked?

Email Mrs. Dozier or your academic advisor. You must include the unit and lesson number. Each student is allotted ONE teacher reset per test, quiz or assignment. This is a new protocol for spring semester to encourage students to try their best and work hard on their assignments.

  1. When would I complete a Science, Math, ELA, or Social Studies ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE FORM?

Complete this form if you do not understand a lesson or concept AFTER you have read everything carefully, watched the instructional videos, completed the study guide and/or practice activities, and taken notes from the “study” section of the lesson. When you request academic assistance, you must include the SUBJECT, UNIT, and LESSON that is causing you difficulty.

  1. Do I have to attend a Google Meet every day?

Students are required to attend the 9 AM Google Meet each day for a social emotional lesson and to stay on track with academic coursework.

  1. How much should I do each day?

You should work in every course every day. We suggest 3-4 hours of work in APEX on a daily basis. Students should complete all aspects of APEX- as outlined on the pacing guide. Students should not attempt quizzes or tests without completing the lesson assignments in APEX.

You can see the Apex deadlines by checking the calendar on the student dashboard or by checking the enrollment details on your course grade. If you finish your scheduled assignments, take the opportunity to read a book of your choice or research a topic of interest online.

  1. Do I have to turn in the “practice” assignments?

Practice assignments and study guides are great tools for you to prepare for the quizzes and tests. You do NOT need to turn these practice assignments in to a teacher (with the exception of Horizons Science), but they will help you when you take your assessments.

  1. How is my attendance taken each day?

Attendance is determined by whether or not a student submits work/assignments or participates in assigned learning activities by the deadline established by district policy. Teachers will submit daily attendance marking students “present.”

Students who fail to submit assignments or participate in assigned experiences within a three-day time-frame will then be coded as absent for the virtual learning day. Teachers are required to reconcile attendance weekly.

  1. How are my grades calculated?

The only grades that count in the gradebook are the grades on quizzes and tests. Therefore, it is important that you prepare well for your quizzes and tests. Since APEX forces a student to retake a quiz or test until they receive a 60 or better, they will only keep the highest grade in the gradebook.

  1. What about “Quality of Work” versus “Grade to Date”?

The Quality of Work calculation answers the question: How is this student performing on the work they have completed? It is a student's average relative to the total points possible for completed activities.

The Grade to Date calculation answers the question: What is this student's grade right now? It is a student's average for completed activities due through today relative to all activities due through today and any other completed activities.

  1. What do I do if I get locked out of an Apex quiz or test?

If you are locked out of an Apex quiz or test, this means you have tried it three times and scored less than a 60 each time. To avoid getting locked out of a quiz or test, be sure that you have carefully completed the lessons and studied to prepare for the quiz or test. Your scores count as grades. You do not need to contact your advisor if you get locked out; a message will be sent automatically to the appropriate person. Quizzes and tests will be reset within 24 hours so that you can retry.

  1. May I retake a quiz to make a better grade?

Yes. To retake a quiz, you must complete an APEX ASSISTANCE FORM (on the website) and you must tell us the SUBJECT, UNIT, and LESSON you need to retake. If you are locked out of an Apex quiz or test, this means you have tried it three times and scored less than a 60 each time. Each student has 1 teacher reset allowed per test, quiz or assignment. It may take up to 24 hours to reset it for you.
