D.R. Hill Middle School is one of two middle schools in Spartanburg District Five that offers students a comprehensive 7th and 8th grade education. Students have more than 50 courses to choose from including specialized RTI, Honors, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), and Related Arts course offerings.

In athletics, the D.R. Hill Tigers compete in the Peachtree Conference in cheer, football, volleyball, and basketball. Students also participate in the following high school sports through James F. Byrnes High School: wrestling, cross country, track, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. D.R. Hill offers students several opportunities in performing and fine arts, including clubs like Etch and classes liked orchestra, band, chorus, and theatre.

D.R. Hill Middle School is fed by three Spartanburg District Five elementary schools which are Wellford Elementary, Lyman Elementary, and Duncan Elementary. It is home to over 730 students and approximately 58 teachers and 25 support staff members. The principal of D.R. Hill is Mr. Terry Glasgow and he is supported by two assistant principals, Mr. Scott Hall and Mrs. Ashley Williams.
