If your student takes daily medication, please make every effort to give this medication at home.
The health room offers a limited supply of over-the-counter medication for emergency use during the school day. These medications include Acetaminophen 325mg (Tylenol), Ibuprofen 200mg (Advil/Motrin), Hydrocortisone Cream 1% for itching, and Tums antacids. If a student visits the health room frequently to receive stock medication then the parent may be asked to supply the student's own bottle of medication.
The health room does not offer any over-the-counter allergy medications, cough/cold medications, cough drops, nasal sprays, eye drops, etc. If your child has seasonal allergies, please make arrangements for them to receive appropriate medications at home prior to school. If your child has cold/flu symptoms, please review the "When to Stay Home" section to ensure they are well enough to attend.
Students may not keep medications on their person unless it has been approved by the school nurse and the Self-Medicating Form must be signed by the Prescriber, Parent/Guardian, and Student. The medications approved to be self-carried are typically only those needed for emergency use such as inhalers, epipens, etc.
Medications must be brought to the school by a responsible adult. Medications will not be accepted from a student.
If your student will require medication while on a field trip, please notify the school nurse/teacher so the appropriate medication form can be sent home. No stock medications from the health room will be sent on field trips. All medication forms must be signed by your child's medical provider (prescription medications must be signed for by the prescribing physician).
Any medication stored at school must be in the original unexpired container with the student’s name and directions for use.
Medications stored at school must be picked up prior to the last day of school. Any medications that are not picked up by end of day on the last day of school will be destroyed per district protocol.
Students are not allowed to self-medicate or self-carry any controlled substances. No narcotic pain medications will be delivered by a school nurse. The health room cannot administer any over-the-counter holistic medications, vitamins, supplements, etc that are not FDA approved. All medications must be given for the reason indicated on the bottle unless otherwise directed by a physician's order.
