"The aim of all education is...to teach people to educate themselves."

Arnold Toynbee

Both Arnold Toynbee and noted southern historian C. Vann Woodward suggest that “it is morally desirable to recognize that ‘history [has] happened to my people in my part of the world’” (as cited in Carlton, 1982). Adhering to this philosophy, it is my goal for students to recognize themselves in others' historical experiences. While emphasizing the use of primary sources, technology integration, and historical inquiry, it is my hope that students have a greater affinity for and appreciation of the relevancy of history in our lives.
