South Park School District, in conjunction with UPMC Sports Medicine, provides comprehensive care for all of its student athletes. This coverage includes having a Certified Athletic Trainer present at most team practices and all home events. In addition to the full-time coverage, the partnership with UPMC not only allows South Park student athletes direct access to the finest in Sports Medicine physicians and Orthopedic surgeons, but also to physical therapy, sports nutritionists, sports performance training, neuropsychologists for concussion care, and access to all other specialists within the hospital system. The UPMC Health System Sports Medicine program is the area's leader in the prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Mr. Nelson received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Slippery Rock University, as well as a master’s degree in athletic training from A.T Still University, Mesa, AZ. He previously worked for the College of William & Mary and EXOS, and has been with UPMC since 2013. His special interests include IASTM, functional movement based rehabilitation, running mechanics and coffee.

Ms. Schust received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Duquesne University, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree from Point Park University. She has been with UPMC since 2022. Her special interests include IASTM, the healing process, and coffee.
