Within this age range, I offer support with all subjects but try to focus on the core subjects of English and Maths. This also encompasses phonics, spelling, grammar, and punctuation, as well as strategies for mental and written calculations.
I recommend shorter time slots; usually 30 minutes is sufficient to get some good quality learning done without over-stretching their attention span. Sometimes it is more time efficient to do as an add-on after another student within the same household or as online sessions.
Please note: An adult must be present at all times during the session (within close proximity).
This age range is the best for picking up confidence issues as well as filling in key gaps of knowledge that may have appeared with the jump to the key stage 2 curriculum.
At this age, it is often better to have more frequent shorter sessions to get the repetition required for learning; I generally recommend 30 or 45 minute sessions depending on the child. These can be face-to-face (depending on distance) but these pupils often react positively to the technology of online learning!
Please note: An adult must be present at all times during the session (within close proximity).
For many students, there are drastic changes in expectations. The larger scale of the school environment can leave some feeling lost or overwhelmed, the higher level of independence can give a feeling of being unsupported and the extent of the curriculum leads to a pace that can be hard to follow.
Regular opportunities to discuss issues or concerns are a vital part of life, particularly at work and children are no different. Having tutoring alongside their formal education provides a significant adult they can bond with and talk to about pastoral or educational problems. With this addressed outside of school, students feel more comfortable and confident in school. Alongside communication with students/parents/carers and the school, the student can receive an individualised education that encourages self-confidence, wider understanding, and positive attitudes.
I offer all core subjects: Maths, English and Science.
Students must have access to paper, pens, pencil, ruler, and calculator (plus periodic table for Science) every session.
Please note: An adult must be present at all times during the session (within close proximity).
At this level, I only tutor Maths and Science due to my own subject knowledge and experience.
I have experience with a variety of exam boards for both subjects. I have taught both combined and individual Science qualifications, and have a vast amount of resources to support this. For Maths, I am confident teaching up to Level 6, however have tutored students at a higher level in the past.
Students must have access to paper, pens, pencil, ruler, and calculator (plus periodic table for Science) every session.
Please note: An adult must be present at all times during the session (within close proximity).
