I'm a qualified primary teacher, so I trained to teach ages 5 to 11, however in the UK a teaching qualification means you can teach any age. I have experience teaching and tutoring from Reception to GCSE, which traditionally goes from the age of 5 right up to 16, but have also taught older students who are working within this age range.
The initial session will be an opportunity to see if we are the right fit for each other - if their level is not an area I am comfortable with, I will tell you!
I cannot guarantee any specific results, and certainly cannot say that I can teach what was missed as schools teach different things at different times so it would be impossible to know what specifically they missed.
Tutoring is an excellent way to give students an additional boost that supports their school education, regardless of whether they missed one lesson or many more!
A better question would be what don't I have experience with! I have taught children with, and had training around, a multitude of different SEND.
Making education accessible for all is a massive passion of mine, and dare I say that I have a talent for adapting to every student's needs. I have always focused on this area for professional development.
Some examples of my experience include:
Speech and Language Difficulties (includes hearing, processing and speech)
Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia (no experience of teaching a student with dyscalculia)
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) (From low-level to non-verbal, including Aspergers)
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD)
Emotional Behaviour Disorder (EBD)
Global Developmental Delay
Hyper-mobility
Anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns
Of course! I'm more than happy to help and support parents/carers to be more confident so they can tutor themselves. Just send me a message and I'll see how I can help!
I have also tutored adults retaking their qualifications, so this isn't out of the question either!
"How long is a piece of string?"
It depends on the student. During the first session, I will ask lots of questions to get more familiar with their abilities and needs, as well as try to help them feel more comfortable with me. This will help me to recommend frequency and length of sessions, but ultimately it is up to you! You know the student best, after all.
I offer both online and face-to-face depending on location and length of sessions; 30-minute sessions tend to work better online for example.
For the most part I use Zoom for online sessions, however I have also used Google Meet. Either way you will be sent a link as well as the 'Meeting ID' and if necessary a password. Both platforms can be done within the browser but Zoom works better if the desktop app is downloaded.
Invitation links can be sent via email, Facebook messenger, text message or WhatsApp. This also provides as a reminder for your session.
Sparkles and Smiles Ltd has a business account. You will be sent the account information just before or after the initial meeting session (Once you have been given all the pricing options and chosen how frequently to pay). Your invoice can then be paid via bank transfer.
Prices are available on the Services page.
In theory, yes. Please message to discuss further as this is not something I generally offer.
Generally, yes. However, I do reserve the right to use this time to go on holiday or take a break!
Of course! You can use the links or information at the bottom of the page to get in touch. I always offer an introduction free of charge as I think this is the best way to know whether we suit each other's needs/expectations! At the end of the day, you have to do what you think is right for your family and I will do whatever I can to help you with that decision.
