Hybrid apps are applications which can be used both, on- and offline. Common characteristics of hybrid apps include collaborative and content creation features. Hybrid apps can be accessed from any browser or as a stand alone app on a smartphone or tablet, making it easier to create content on or offline, or on the move.
Below is a collection of hybrid apps which are free to use. Most require that you sign up to their service with a valid email address. However, some will require that you use a valid and recognised educational institution to benefit from the extra bells and whistles. If you work for a small provider, a simple email to the company will usually be sufficient as proof that you're a bona fide educator. Feel free to tinker with the apps listed below to find out how you can enhance your teaching and learning.
Please participate and share your tinker efforts on our Tinker Box page to help build a resource banks for other educators in ACL (adult community learning).
Once you've tinkered with a few apps, think about how you design your learners' learning experience. The next section gives you examples of different design and pedagogical approaches. Just pick and mix those that best suit your, and your learners' needs and your context, and share your creation on your own Tinker Box page.
