About the Program:

Join us in making a difference in the community as a teen intern at the South Side Help Center! Under the guidance of our Youth and Family department, you'll have the opportunity to assist in organizing and conducting events and programs that empower and support youth in the Greater Roseland neighborhood.

Assistant to the Youth Director

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Youth Development Director and Youth Services department.
  • Perform tasks such as typing, filing, scheduling, record-keeping, and coordination of meetings and workshops.
  • Assist with special projects and events.
  • Coordinate supplies procurement and mailings.

Afterschool Counselor

  • Assist lead counselors with educational and recreational activities for children aged 9 to 14.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of assigned children.
  • Facilitate group activities and maintain a positive environment.

Youth Media Coordinator

  • Assist in managing social media campaigns and content creation.
  • Capture photographs and video of youth activities.
  • Report on various activities and engagement metrics.

Community Ambassadors

  • Collaborate with other youth to address community needs and advocate for youth interests.
  • Research community resources and identify areas for improvement.
  • Engage youth in decision-making processes and project development.
  • Champion youth empowerment and drive positive change within the community.
  • Lead leadership development and skill-building activities for peers.
  • Engage in community outreach and advocacy campaigns.
  • Mentor and support other youth in becoming catalysts for social progress.

Event Organizer

  • Plan and coordinate logistics for events and programs at the South Side Help Center and in the community.
  • Manage event ensuring smooth execution of all event details.
  • Oversee day-of event operations, including set-up, staff assignments, participant registration, and clean-up.

Afterschool Tutor/Mentor

  • Provide academic support and assistance to students during afterschool hours.
  • Help students with homework, assignments, and study skills.
  • Track student progress and communicate with program coordinators as needed.
  • Build supportive relationships by listening, offering guidance, and providing encouragement.
  • Help youth set and work towards personal and academic goals.
  • Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the mentee's well-being.
