2020 City Championship

Dragons Win the Varsity Gold City Championship!

In a very tight back-and-forth game, Dragons beat Frisco 4-3 in regulation.

Frisco struck first, but Dragons led on the scoreboard for most of the second and third periods.

Scoring for the Dragons were Wood 2G, Mondou 1G1A, Hamilton 1G1A, M. McManus 1A, Preston 1A, Gonzalez 1A, and Goalie M. Evans with 1A.

2020 Southlake Dragons participate in charity hockey event.

The Dragons had a great time playing against the Fort Worth Police Department.

There was a huge turnout for the game which raised funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in memory of Ryan Alexander Cussnick. After nearly every Dragon scored a goal or two, the final score of the game was 4-3 Dragons (some questionable scoring practices were employed).

2020 Summer League Registration has opened.

We are looking to field both a Varsity and JV team this year.

Season Consists of 10 Sunday afternoon/evening games starting on Sun, Mar 3.

No practices.

Games start no earlier than 1:00 and end no later than 10:00. No games over Memorial Day and Jul 4th weekends.

Playoffs for top 4 teams on Jul 26 and Aug 2. Likely will be north and south divisions so travel shouldn't be bad.

Coach Anderson will man the bench for Varsity and also JV when no conflicts.

Cost is $375...spring temp jerseys will be provided to new players if needed.

We realize there is a lot of travel during the summer league...it is common for players to miss a few weeks and the coaches understand.

2020 Varsity Gold Dragons go to the championship round in the Top Shelf Hockey Challenge

The Dragons went 4-0 in the tournament but came up short in the Championship game, falling 3-2 to the Lone Star Battalion.

Down 3-0 midway through the 2nd period, a PPG by C.Wood got the Dragons on the scoreboard. Another G by G.McManus with just over a minute to play in the 2nd made it a one goal game with a whole period of hockey to play. Neither team was successful in scoring in the third period, keeping the final score 3-2 in favor of the Battalion.

Dragon goaltending duties were shared by D.Asdi and M.Evans who, combined, saw a total of 33 SOG.

2020 Varsity Gold Dragons fared well in State Tournament

Varsity Dragons place 2nd in State tournament.

Varsity Gold Dragons went 1-1-1 and landed a spot in the finals.

Dragons fought hard all weekend and never gave up but fell short with a 2-1 loss to Frisco in the finals.

Senior night was a huge success!

Varsity Dragons win big against McKinney with a final score of 8-2.

The offense was relentless that evening putting up 31 shots to McKinney's 15.

M. Evans was in net tonight for the Dragons.

Scoring for the Dragons were D. Hamilton 4G, B. Mondou 1G2A, N. Preston 2G, B. Flett 1G2A, C. Wood 2A, G. McManus 1A.

The Varsity Dragons win Best Of The West Tournament!

NYTEX Sports Centre played host to a High School Varsity tournament over Thanksgiving weekend in which teams from Southlake, Mansfield, Keller and a Houston/Austin combination team competed for the title Best Of The West.

Some of our Dragon Hockey Alumni may recognize the trophy pictured below, the Southwestern Bell Metroplex High School Hockey Championship Trophy which dates back to League's inaugural season 1996-97.

Varsity Dragons defeat Allen 6-1!

The Dragon offense was working at full speed, putting 40 SOG. Dragon defense was also busy keeping Allen away from the net; Goaltender D.Asdi sees only 9 SOG.

Scoring for the Dragons: B.Mondou with a hat trick, R.Norris with 1G, D.Sawicki and B.Flett each with 1G1A. G.McManus earns a playmaker (3A in a game) and D.Hamilton with 2A. M.McManus, R.Weisberg and H.Haack each with 1A.

Varsity Dragons are back at the McKinney StarCenter next Thursday, Oct 24 to take on McKinney at 8pm.

JV Dragons remain undefeated!

JV Dragons continues win streak, goaltender C.Moritz allows only 1 goal, in a 6-1 victory over Northwest.

The Dragon offense put 29 SOG tonight. Dragons lead 3-0 after the first period, and had a 4-0 lead before allowing the lone Northwest goal. Scoring for the Dragons: S.Moritz 3G, R.Weisberg 1G1A, B.Hennessey 1G1A, C.McKillips 1G1A, and E.Vining N.Sheppard, and C.Noon each have 1A.

The JV Dragons will face Plano East next Sunday, October 20 at 3:30 at the Euless StarCenter. Go Dragons!

Varsity Dragons lose in another close game.

Varsity Dragon fall 2-1 to Jesuit last night, fall to 4th place in the standings. Jesuit gets on the board first, the Dragons quickly tie the game, but Jesuit comes back in the second period for the game winner. M. Evans stops 28/30 SOG by Jesuit.

Dragon offense worked all night, but only 1 of the 33 SOG went in. The lone Dragon goal was scored by J.Arnold, assists to D.Hamilton and J.Gonzalez.

The Dragons next game is on Thursday, October 17 at 9:15. Dragon will play Allen at the McKinney StarCenter.

JV Dragons defeat Keller 6-0! C.Moritz gets the shutout.

The Dragons capitalized on a 1st period power play. That goal started a 6 point, unanswered, scoring streak by the Dragons.

The Dragon offense put 39 SOG tonight. Scoring for the Dragons: S.Moritz 2G3A, N.Sheppard 1G2A, R Weisberg 2G, B.Hennessey and C.McKillips each with 1G, and M.Riser and F.Izquirdo each with 1A.

The undefeated Dragons are currently in 1st place in the JV Silver division. Their next game is at home at the Euless StarCenter next Sunday, October 13 when they'll face Northwest at 7:30.

Varsity Dragons lose in a nail biter!

Varsity Dragons have their first loss of the season, falling 3-2 to Highland Park. HP put 24 SOG tonight, with D.Asdi stopping 21 of them.

The first period belonged to HP, up 2-0 at the end of the 1st. The Dragons came back with 2 goals in the second period: B.Mondou (J.Gonzalez) and B.Flett (D.Sawicki). The game remained tied 2-2, but HP gets the go-ahead goal with 3 minutes left in the game, and the Dragons couldn't recover.

The Dragons are back at home at the Euless StarCenter next week, Thursday, October 10 when they play Jesuit at 8:45.

JV Dragons defeat Prosper 5-1!

Prosper had a short bench today, but was still able to put 27 SOG, of which, Dragon goalie C.Moritz stopped 26.

Prosper scored the first goal of the game. The Dragons tied it 1-1 with less than a minute remaining in the 1st period. It was all Dragons for the rest of the game.

S.Moritz had a 3 point game with 2G1A, P.McKillips scored 2 G, R.Weisberg 1G1A, C.McKillips 2A, and A.Baek, B.Hennessey, J.Kock, and G.Pike with 1A each.

The JV Dragons play Keller next Sunday, October 6 at 6pm at the Euless StarCenter. Go Dragons!

Varsity Dragons defeat McKinney 3-2 in season opener!

D. Asdi gets the W tonight stopping 23 of 25 SOG.

Dragon offense scored on 3 of their 37 SOG. B.Mondou (assisted by B.Flett and D.Sawicki) started the scoring in the 1st, but McKinney rebounds, ending the first period in a tie. Dragons B.Flett (unassisted) capitalize on a Power Play to end the second period with a 2-1 lead. McKinney again comes back to tie the game in the third period. A late third period goal by B.Mondou (unassisted) puts the Dragons up 3-2, and they hang on to the lead for the Win!

The Varsity Dragons next game is Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 at the Euless StarCenter.

Dragon Hockey Looking To Continue Success From Past Season

Dragon Hockey has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. Players and Coaches are hoping the momentum they built last season will continue. A quick look in the rearview mirror will show you three Championship trophies from 2019 – Summer, City, and State. Beyond those, a State Title and Nationals appearance in 2018, and a State Finalist and Nationals appearance in 2017. You could say expectations are high.

“Defend the Tradition. We talk about the motto all the time”, says Dragon Head Coach, Knute Anderson. “The Tradition is a real thing to all athletes wearing a Dragon crest”.

Coach Anderson also states “We have a 36 game winning streak. We lost to Denton County on October 18, and have not lost since. The top 8 goal scorers from last year return this year so we feel offensively we will be very strong.”

The Dragons will play in the pre-season Leveling Tournament on September 7 and 8.

Senior Skate 2019

Head Coach Knute Anderson hosted a Senior skate Thursday night May 4th honoring this year and last years Varsity teams.

This was the last time the team will skate together. Seniors and Asst. Coach Scott Adams will be moving on.

Dragons make their presence known at America’s Showcase

Dragon Hockey players Pete Adams, Julian Gonzalez, Ben Mondou, Noah Preston as well as former player Ryan Hooks represented SCHA playing for Team Texas in America's Showcase St. Louis.

America's Showcase is a Tournament that allows outstanding High School Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to be scouted and continue their hockey career after high school.

Team Texas ended up second overall in the tournament and went 3-2-1 . The team avenged an OT loss with a pool play win over Team Illinois to advance to the Finals. Team Texas fell short in the finals with a 9-2 loss but had a good showing overall.

Per Coach Knute, “I’ve been to this tournament for several years but this is the best showing by a Texas team.”

Dragons invade AAC

The Dallas Stars recognized the HS Hockey League All Academic and MVP recipients on 04/2/2019.

Dragon Hockey players recognized were P.Adams, N.Preston, and B.Mullins.

Dragons win 2019 City Championship

Dragons defeat Denton County 4-1 to win Varsity Silver City Championship.

The Dragons goet on the Board first with a goal by N.Preston, assisted by B.Mondou; finish the first period with a 1-0 lead.

The second period was all Dragons with a goal by D.Hamilton, assisted by B.Mondou and P.Adams.

The third period found the Dragons outshot by the Spartans, but a PPG by J.Arnold, assisted by B.Mondou, and another goal mid-way through the period by D.Hamilton, assisted by N.Preston and P.Adams secured the Dragons lead.

Goaltender B.Mullins had a near-perfect game, facing 32 SOG and allowing only 1 goal late in the third period.

The Varsity Dragons defeated Keller 3-2 in a Senior Night shootout.

The Dragons’ offense was relentless, outshooting Keller 43-16. B.Mondou started the scoring for the Dragons, but Keller came back to tie the game and then take the lead. A late 3rd period goal by D.Hamilton tied the game at 2-2.

The tied game went directly to a shootout. It took 4 shooters for the Dragons Win. Scoring in the shootout was P.Adams, B.Mondou, and N.Preston. Goaltender B.Mullins was solid in the shootout allowing only 1 goal by Keller.

Dragons win State!

Southlake Carroll Dragons defeat Denton County Spartans for state title.

The Dragons defeated the Spartans today, also the 3rd time in 4 days, to capture the Silver State Championship. Dragons 4 Spartans 1.

Scoring for the Dragons today: J.Arnold assisted by J.Gonzalez, N. Preston unassisted short-handed goal, D.Sawicki assisted by J.Gonzales, and D.Hamilton assisted by P. Adams.

D.Asdi had another stellar game in net, stopping 23 of 24 SOG today. He finished the weekend with only 1 Goal Against on 46 SOG in 2 games.

As one might expect when playing the same team 3 times in 4 days, and the Championship is at stake, tension was high and penalties were plentiful. But again, Southlake had the lowest number of Penalty Minutes. Another interesting statistic, the Dragons were 100% on the Penalty Kill.
