The following grading policy was determined by the district for all JAD and JFK science classes. Please note that these percentages are estimates. They may vary slightly each trimester.
*Students earning below 60% on an assessment (quiz or test) may have the opportunity to come back for re-teaching of the material.
*For a student to qualify for a re-teach opportunity, he or she must have met at least one of the following criteria:
1. Handed in all homework assignments from the date of the last
assessment up to the date of the assessment in question.
2. Attended one extra help session prior to the date of the
assessment.
3. Amended the failed assessment by correcting all errors prior to re-teaching.
*Therefore, any student who has missed a homework leading up to the assessment, or has not attended a session for extra help prior to the date of the actual asessment, is ineligible for a re-teach opportunity. Any student not eligible will earn the original grade given for the assessment.
*All students who do qualify for a re-teach opportunity may earn up to a 70% at the teacher's discretion.
*This extra help session can be scheduled within two weeks on a Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday after school upon request. If the student demonstrates understanding of the material after one or more extra help sessions, the student is eligible to earn a maximum final grade of 70% on this assessment.
*Cheating and/or plagiarism will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action will be taken if this occurs.
*Grades are posted in a timely manner on Power School. Students and parents can monitor grades in Physical Science online through the Parent Portal of Power School.
