In order to completely align standards and assessments, it requires an assessment system designed to measure in some way the full range of cognitive complexity within each specified content standard. Norman Webb identified four levels for assessing the DOK of content standards and assessment items. Below you will find the links to the cognitive rigor matrices for Reading, Reading & Listening, and Writing.

Teams of educators from across the state helped the Ohio Department of Education develop the English Language Arts Model Curriculum following the adoption of Ohio’s Learning Standards in 2017. The public, along with educators, commented on suggested changes to the model curriculum for K-12 during a month-long survey that closed in September 2017. These suggestions were incorporated into the model curriculum, where appropriate. The State Board of Education adopted the model curriculum in February 2018.
These documents contain grade-specific spreadsheets that identify the passage/passage set by text type (literary or informational). Each passage tracker identifies the reading and writing learning standards that are assessed by the test items associated with each of the passage/passage sets.
The English Language Arts (ELA) Test Specifications provide an overview of the structure and content of Ohio’s State Test for ELA. This overview includes a description of the test design as well as information on the types of items that appear on the test. A test blueprint is included that identifies the range and distribution of points grouped into various reporting categories. The specifications also provide specific guidelines for the development of all items used for Ohio’s ELA test. This document is intended to be a resource not only for item writers and test designers but also for Ohio educators and other stakeholders who are interested in a deeper understanding of the test.

PearlTrees is a collaborative website to store thoughts, links, videos, and notes. Teachers can easily post an idea or "pearl" on a specific topic or post a series of topics in a unit of study on their "tree". Using PearlTrees is an excellent way to collaborate professionally with other teachers in Ohio and beyond because all “trees” are public unless you have the premium account.

The purpose of the group is to build a virtual bookshelf of lesson plans and discussions to support English language arts instruction in K-12 classrooms. Ohio English language arts teachers will be able to collect, collaborate and share ideas with colleagues across the state.
