Outreach
The Girls in Math @South program started in 2018 when Dr. Selvi Kara (now at Bryn Mawr) and I received an MAA Tensor Grant for Women and Mathematics. The program is currently in its 6th year. Girls in grades 3-8 are invited to sign up for Zoom meetings.
The Mobile Math Circle is a weekly gathering designed for middle school and high school students who enjoy math and want the challenge of exciting problems that are normally outside the school curriculum.
Together with Dr. Andrei Pavelescu, I am coordinating a Math Kangaroo center here at South. Students in grades 1 -12 can register before December 31st to participate in the Kangaroo Math competition on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.
GEMS (Go Explore Math & Science) is a yearly conference that offers hands-on STEM workshops for middle school students.
I created the activity "A Game of Cats" for middle school students. It won the 3rd prize in the 2021 Rosenthal Prize for Innovation and Inspiration in Math Teaching offered through the National Museum of Mathematics.
