This section describes the CCP Student Awards. These awards are given annually in recognition of exceptional performance on the part of CCP Students. The Associate DCT will be responsible for coordinating the awards process; however, all CCP Core Faculty will participate in the reviewing, rating, and ranking of nominees. In addition to being described in this Handbook, the CCP Student Awards are described on the CCP Program Website and are discussed with new CCP students during New Student Orientation. The awardees are recognized at the annual Psychology Department Awards Ceremony, typically held in April each year. Specific information about each of the awards is provided below.
CCP Outstanding Masters Student Award
Description: This award is given to a 1st or 2nd year student in the program in recognition of exceptional overall performance across several domains, including 1) research and scholarship, 2) clinical training and applied clinical skill development, 3) service and advocacy, and 4) professionalism, collegiality, and leadership (e.g., serving as cohort representative on GSO, peer mentoring, etc.). Though the award is given annually, the credentials considered and reviewed will encompass the student’s effort throughout their time enrolled in the CCP Program.
Eligibility: All 1st and 2nd year CCP Students are eligible for this award. CCP Students who have previously been selected for the CCP Outstanding Masters Student Award are not eligible to receive it a second time.
Nominations: Nominations for this award will be solicited via electronic polling disseminated annually during the last week of January to all CCP Faculty and Students. Nominations will remain open for a period of two weeks. Any CCP Faculty or Student may nominate an eligible student for this award, including self-nominations, peer-nominations, and faculty-nominations. Nominations will be anonymous. At the closure of the nomination period, nominees will be informed via email that they were nominated. Nominated students decide whether they wish to accept the nomination and submit support materials or withdraw their name from consideration.
Support Materials/Instructions: CCP Students who are nominated and who wish to be considered for the award must submit their (1) current curriculum vitae (CV) and (2) a statement (1 page max) that speaks to their performance relative to the noted areas (i.e., research and scholarship, clinical training and applied clinical skill development, service and advocacy, and professionalism, collegiality, and leadership). Support materials will be collected using a Google Form that will be reviewed holistically by the core faculty. The deadline for submitting supporting materials will be 3 weeks following the notification of nomination and solicitation of supporting materials. Evaluation rubrics will be made available to all nominated students.
Evaluation & Selection Procedures: Once the deadline for accepting the nominations and submitting support materials has passed, the submitted materials will be provided to all CCP Core Faculty along with links to the evaluation rubrics for each award. Faculty will individually review and rate nominees’ materials. The aggregated ratings by domain will be presented and discussed at a CCP Core Faculty Meeting. Following discussion of the nominees, CCP Faculty will individually rank order the nominees. Points will be assigned as follows: 1st place vote =N points, 2nd place vote = N-1 points, 3rd place vote = N-2 points, … and so on, where N is the total number of nominees. The nominee with the highest total point score (sum of points across all voters) will be identified as the award winner. In cases where multiple nominees have the same total score, they will be co-winners of the award.
CCP Excellence in Clinical Services Award
Description: This award is given to an advanced student in recognition of exceptional skills and knowledge in clinical services (i.e., treatment, assessment, & consultation), including the ability to integrate theory into practice, cultural humility and cultural responsivity in delivering care, knowledge of and ability to practice from an evidenced-based perspective, commitment to effective practice, professionalism, collegiality, and appropriate independence and initiative in clinical training. Though the award is given annually, the credentials considered and reviewed will encompass the student’s effort throughout their time enrolled in the CCP Program. The award winner is required to deliver a Clinical Ground Rounds Presentation at a CCP Lunch & Learn meeting.
Eligibility: CCP Students enrolled in either CCP756 or CCP782 and who have completed at least 2 semesters (i.e., fall and spring) in the USA Psychological Clinic under at least 2 separate clinical supervisors are eligible for this award. CCP Students who have previously been selected for the CCP Excellence in Clinical Services Award are not eligible to receive it a second time. CCP Students who are currently on pre-doctoral internship are not eligible for this award.

Support Materials/Instructions: CCP Students who are nominated and who wish to be considered for the award must submit a statement (1 page max) that speaks to their performance relative to the noted areas (i.e., integration of theory into practice, cultural humility and cultural responsiveness in delivering care, practice from an evidence-based perspective and commitment to effective practice, approach to psychological assessment and feedback, and, if applicable, any consultation activities). Support data in the form of appendices are permitted (2 pages max), though not required. While there is flexibility in the format, examples of appendices you may wish to include are a (de-identified) case conceptualization description or diagram, or a bullet point description of prior clinical placements. In addition, the nominee’s practicum evaluation reports from all practica since their enrollment in the CCP Program (i.e., CCP556 and CCP756) will be collected from the Associate Director of Clinical Training and considered. The deadline for submitting supporting materials will be 3 weeks following the notification of nomination and solicitation of supporting materials. Evaluation rubrics will be made available to all nominated students.

Description: This award is given in recognition of exceptional contribution to the body of scientific knowledge and building of methodological and analytical skills via programmatic scholarly productivity in a manner that involves personal investment and independence, while also effective in collaboration and professionalism. Though the award is given annually, the credentials considered and reviewed will encompass the student’s effort throughout their time enrolled in the CCP Program. The award winner is required to deliver a Research Presentation at a CCP Lunch & Learn meeting.
Eligibility: CCP Students enrolled in the PhD Program of Study for at least one full year are eligible. This would include second-year students who entered the CCP Program having completed a Master’s degree. CCP Students who have previously been selected for this award are not eligible to receive it a second time. CCP Students who are currently on pre-doctoral internship are not eligible for this award.
Nominations: Nominations for this award will be solicited via electronic polling disseminated annually during the last week of January to all CCP Faculty and Students. Nominations will remain open for a period of two weeks. Any CCP Faculty or Student may nominate an eligible student for this award, including self-nominations, peer-nominations, and faculty-nominations. Nominations will be anonymous. At the closure of the nomination period, nominees will be informed via email that they were nominated. Support Materials/Instructions: CCP Students who are nominated and who wish to be considered for the award must submit their (1) current curriculum vitae and (2) a statement that speaks to their contribution to the body of scientific knowledge and building of methodological and analytical skills via programmatic scholarly productivity in a manner that involves personal investment and independence, while also effective in collaboration and professionalism. The statement is designed to be consistent with the Contributions to Science portion of the NIH Biosketch format, but limited to 3 unique contribution sections, each with a maximum of 2,000 characters (excluding spaces). An example and guidelines will be provided when students are notified about their nomination via a link on the materials submission page. The deadline for submitting supporting materials will be 3 weeks following the notification of nomination and solicitation of supporting materials. Evaluation rubrics will be made available to all nominated students.

CCP Citizenship Award
Description: This award recognizes outstanding contributions and commitment to citizenship and community within the CCP program. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, service, and dedication to enhancing the academic and social environment of the CCP community.
Eligibility: All CCP Students would be eligible for this award, including those currently on predoctoral internship. Those who have previously been selected for this award are not eligible to receive it a second time.
Nominations: Nominations for this award will be solicited via electronic polling disseminated annually during the last week of January to all CCP Faculty and Students. Nominations will remain open for a period of two weeks. Any CCP Faculty or Student may nominate an eligible student for this award, including self-nominations, peer-nominations, and faculty-nominations. Nominations will be anonymous. Nominators will be asked to provide information about the nominee's contributions to citizenship and CCP community engagement in 150 words or less. At the closure of the nomination period, nominees will be informed via email that they were nominated. Nominated students decide whether they wish to accept the nomination and submit support materials or withdraw their name from consideration.
Support Materials/Instructions: CCP Students who are nominated and who wish to be considered for the award must submit their current curriculum vitae, which will be collected using a Google Form that will be reviewed holistically by the core faculty. CCP Excellence in Culturally Informed Care & Community Engagement Award
Description: This award is given to an advanced student in recognition of exceptional skills, knowledge, and commitment to culturally informed care as scientist practitioners and advocates. This includes demonstrating a sound understanding and thoughtful consideration of these values in their contributions in classes, demonstration of cultural humility and cultural responsivity in delivering care, thoughtful integration of these values into their program of research (e.g., thesis/dissertation topics, conference presentations, publications), and championing of these values at the department, university, and community level. This award is intended to honor advanced students who have made meaningful contributions to the understanding of culturally informed care and whose contributions have significant promise for bettering the field, overcoming prejudice, and enhancing quality of life for culturally diverse and underserved communities (i.e., populations that do not have adequate access to medical care, including but not limited to rural, elderly, low-literacy, blue collar, and poor populations). Racial and ethnic minority groups per se are not included, but often belong to one or more of the included categories. Though the award is given annually, the credentials considered and reviewed will encompass the student’s effort throughout their time enrolled in the CCP Program. Preference will be given to students who have made progress toward the University of South Alabama’s CCP Doctoral Program Certificate in Culturally Informed Care. The award winner is required to deliver a presentation of their related work at a CCP Lunch & Learn meeting.

"Cultural Competence" data from the nominee’s annual evaluation report(s) will also be collected from the Associate Director of Clinical Training and considered. The deadline for submitting supporting materials will be 3 weeks following the notification of nomination and solicitation of supporting materials. Evaluation rubrics will be made available to all nominated students.
