Career Advising

Team Lead: Jeffrey Gayton

The Career Advising initiative focused on finding ways to integrate career advising throughout the curriculum; to help students connect what they do in the classroom with professional skill development. In the meantime, a "Student Success Coordinator," with responsibility for advising in the Division of Social Science, was piloted in AY17. The success of that pilot led to the hiring of Student Success Coordinators for each academic division in AY18. The Student Success Coordinator has a strong career-advising component, but it is not yet clear how that will work on a practical level. RFY hopes to contribute to developing the relationship between the Office of Career Connections and the Student Success Coordinators. In addition, another RFY initiative, Major Maps, can help align coursework, co-curricular activities, and career development. That said, the Career Advising initiative will re-examine ways to integrate career advising in the curriculum.
