You and a partner are going to take portraits of one another around campus. Using the AV setting on your camera, control the Depth of Field by adjusting the camera aperture.
f/1.8 will give you a shallow depth of field and blur the background. It may blur part of the persons face as well. If it does, adjust to f/2.8 and see if that helps. Regardless, make sure you always focus on the person's eyes. If eyes are out of focus, you will not be happy with the results.
f/16 will give you a much larger depth of field and put the background in focus. Pay particular attention to what is in the background. You shouldn't have a distracting background that takes away from your subject.
You will be turning in a proofsheet with at least 30 images. 5 final images in color and black and white.
Look for good light. Use shadows to create a mood or add drama to the image. Use full shadow with a reflector to bounce light into the persons face.
How do you pose the subject. Remember if you are the model you want to look good in the image.
3 /4 Body Shot: Crop the person at the waist.
Full Body Shot: The entire body is in the shot.
Close up: The persons face fills the frame.
Hands and Face Closeup: Place the subjects hands on their face or close to it.
Eyes: Always in focus.
