Objective:
Create a surreal portrait using multiple photographs to reconstruct or distort a person’s face in an intentional and artistic way. This project challenges students to explore the themes of identity, perception, and self-expression through collage-like composition.
Instructions:
Choose a Subject – Select yourself or a model for the portrait. Consider facial expressions, styling, and background.
Capture Multiple Images – Take at least 9 close-up shots of different parts of the face and body (eyes, nose, mouth, chin, etc.) from a similar angle.
Reconstruct the Portrait – Arrange the images using the template provided. Zoom in or out to create the effect you want.
Black & White vs. Color – Decide whether the final composition should be in black and white for a timeless, dramatic effect or in color for a vibrant, contemporary feel.
Shallow depth of field- Make sure the background is blurred out using a wide aperture 1.4 or 2.8
Evaluation Criteria:
✔ Creativity & Composition – Effective use of framing and arrangement.
✔ Technical Execution – Quality of individual images and alignment of the final piece.
✔ Conceptual Depth – Thoughtful exploration of identity and perception.
✔ Presentation – Clean, polished, and intentional final piece.
Instead of a subject that is a person, choose a subject that is an object. Look for an interesting shape with texture and good lighting. Create your own abstract using at least 9 different angles.
