Teresa P. Nguyen, Ph.D.

About Me

Assistant Professor - Teresa Nguyen
Department of Psychology
Sonoma State University

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. My program of research focuses on understanding the contextual factors that might explain why some intimate relationships are at higher risk for becoming distressed or disrupted compared to other relationships. To reach this aim, my projects have explored how marital quality is influenced by experiences of discrimination, socioeconomic status, financial stress, neighborhood poverty, and couples’ social networks in addition to examining the interplay between these external forces and couples’ communication patterns. I have published in journals such as the Journal of Family Psychology, Cognitive Therapy and Research, and the Journal of Social and Personality Psychology
