The mission of the Tuscan School Library is to prepare each child for academic success by providing access to the necessary educational, instructional, and recreational resources available. In addition, the Tuscan Library serves as a center for educational and technological resources for the faculty and staff of Tuscan School.
The Tuscan School Library is a vital part of the school. In the twenty-first century, it is crucial for students to acquire a love of reading and develop information literacy skills. Each week when students have library class, they gain an appreciation for literature and gain critical thinking skills, using various resources to accomplish these goals.
With over seventeen thousand titles, Tuscan School Library prides itself in presenting a warm and welcoming place for our students to come and discover the world of books and information. Our students, faculty and staff are encouraged to help themselves to our many resources. Each class meets once a week for a library lesson, share book ideas and borrow items from the library.
In addition to weekly visits, the Tuscan library promotes a positive disposition for learning, literacy and creativity through such programs as the Ultimate TV Turnoff, the Reading Train, and the ROAR Book in a Bag program. We have been inviting our students to become discriminating TV viewers and active participants in other forms of creative and reflective recreation through our year-long TV Turnoff program.
Tuscan Library is truly a place where faculty, staff and parents work together to make our students educational experience the best it can be.
Students:
Kindergarten students may borrow one book per week.
Students in grades one through five may borrow two books per week.
Students with overdue books must return them before they may borrow books again.
Faculty:
Faculty may borrow an unlimited number of books at a time. They may borrow books before school, after school, and during library classes.
The Library Media Specialist reads book reviews and receives recommendations from colleagues, faculty and leaders in education when selecting materials for the library. The Tuscan Library abides by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement. If someone in the community challenges the choice of a book in the collection, a committee will be formed to determine whether the book should be removed from the library.
