Estimated Total: 50-60 min
Directions: How you decide to present your information or take notes is your choice! Some people use a google doc, slideshow, notebook, or poster. I truly want you to own how you present your information, but you MUST have every component! There are 5 Steps below.
Your work must be NEAT and COMPLETE!
Estimated: 10 min
Step 1: Create a "See, Think, Wonder" chart for EACH image.
Step 2: For all of the artworks in the carousel below, complete an individual "see, think, wonder" chart. Example below.
Be sure to click next or scroll through the carousel to see all of the images. There are 8 images.
Example Below:
Estimated: 10 min
Step 3: Watch this video "Thinking about cultures" from our online textbook called smarthistory.org
Do you believe that the questions asked in the video were fair questions to ask?
Why or why not?
What other questions would you ask?
Estimated: 5 min
Step 4: Find an object in your home. Pick one that you might not be familiar with. Complete a "see, think, wonder" chart for this object. Take a photo and submit it with your "see, think, wonder" chart.
Mrs. Stewart's Example:
See: brown rim, women of asian decent, colorful outfits, hair accessories, writing on the side of the mug, plain white background, jet black hair, red lips, holding fans and objects, both mugs are exactly the same and look like a set
Think: The items have a balance of luxury, charm, and delicacy. I think that they praise femininity. I think that the writing is important to the visual display. I think that their inability to meet the viewer's eye is intentional.
Wonder: What are the specific items they are holding in their hands? Do the items relate to their occupation or role in society?
What is the exact culture of origin and what do people think about these items today and back then?
Which characteristics are intentional and which are artists' preferences?
What does the writing say?
Estimated: 20 min
Step 5: To be clear, below, you will define the words based on your own prior knowledge. That means that you SHOULD NOT google or find any of these words in a dictionary. You must just "observe" the word and use other words or examples to describe/define EACH word. This is an exercise.
